Transparency and data protection are fundamental pillars of democratic governance within the European Union. They ensure that public institutions operate with openness, accountability, and respect for individual rights.
The European Data Protection Supervisor (EDPS) is dedicated to communicating its activities clearly and accessibly, allowing all stakeholders to understand its mandate and operations.
To reinforce its commitment to transparency, openness, and accountability, the EDPS has introduced new measures designed to maintain the highest standards in its interactions with interest representatives.
Pursuant to the new transparency framework, the Supervisor, the Head of the EDPS Secretariat, and EDPS staff holding managerial responsibilities will engage exclusively with interest representatives registered in the Transparency Register, according to the rules established in the EDPS measures. This provision ensures that all interactions are publicly disclosed, thereby enhancing institutional accountability.
Furthermore, information concerning these meetings — including participants and subjects addressed — will be published in the EDPS Agenda. This commitment to openness is intended to provide citizens with transparent insights into EDPS engagements, thereby fostering public understanding, confidence in the EDPS’s work, and democratic oversight.
To facilitate public awareness and engagement, the EDPS has also developed the following accessible resources:
- The EDPS Public Access to Documents Register: a platform allowing the public to consult EDPS documents for which access has been granted, thereby promoting transparency in documentation.
- Other Relevant Resources: detailed information on the process for public access to documents to assist citizens in helping them understand and exercise their rights.
Through these initiatives, the EDPS reaffirms its commitment to transparency, empowering the public through enhanced access to information regarding its mission and operations.
