Meeting with CDT Europe

Minutes

CDT Europe presented its work under its Data and Equity programme on AI Act implementation, including its report "Effective Remedies for Artificial Intelligence Harms in the European Union", which addresses the protection and enforcement of fundamental rights in the context of AI.
CDT Europe also noted its appointment to the Advisory Board under the AI Act and its preparatory activities in that regard.
The EDPS shared its experience and challenges in operationalising its supervisory functions under the AI Act since the creation of the AI Unit in October 2024, including from a resourcing and procedures perspective. 
The EDPS presented its collaborative interinstitutional approach to implementing its supervisory functions under the AI Act, covering the Mapping Report of High-Risk AI Systems across EU institutions, bodies, offices and agencies (EUIs), the AI Act Correspondents Network, and the AI Regulatory Sandbox Pilot Project.

The EDPS held a fourth in a series of workshops with Big Tech companies. The meeting with OpenAI gave an overview of how the use of Privacy Enhancing Technologies (PETs) are integrated in the company’s products. OpenAI gave an overview of their Privacy Program, especially related to the use of ChatGPT. It also giving a technical deep dive into the Privacy Filter, a specialized machine learning model released by OpenAI designed to automatically detect and redact personally identifiable information (PII) and sensitive data within unstructured texts.
