On 28 January each year, member states of the Council of Europe and EU institutions celebrate Data Protection Day. It marks the anniversary of the Council of Europe’s data protection convention, known as “Convention 108”. It was the first binding international law concerning individuals’ rights to the protection of their personal data.

Data Protection Regulation for EU Institutions

The Regulation 2018/1725 applicable as from 11 December 2018 brings the data protection rules for EU Institutions and bodies in line with the standards imposed on other organizations and business by the GDPR. Guidelines on Data Breach

The EDPS has issued guidelines on personal data breach notification for the EU institutions and bodies.

Under the new Regulation (EU) 2018/1725, all European institutions and bodies have a duty to report certain types of personal data breaches to the EDPS. If you have experienced a personal data breach, we advise you first to read our guidelines before submitting a data breach notification form.
