The trainees of the European Data Protection Supervisor (EDPS) and the European Data Protection Board (EDPB) are organising a conference exploring the growing role of artificial intelligence in modern recruitment and HR processes.

When: Thursday, 9 July 2026, 14:00 – 17:00 (accreditation starts at 13:30)

Where: European Parliament, Brussels

About the conference

Artificial intelligence is increasingly shaping how organisations recruit and evaluate candidates, with tools for CV screening, video interview analysis and performance prediction becoming more common across both public and private sectors. While these technologies promise efficiency and innovation, they also raise important questions around how personal data is collected and used in hiring decisions and other HR activities.

The conference will examine the questions this raises around data protection in increasingly automated recruitment processes:

  • How can individuals exercise control over their data?
  • How can candidates, often in a position of limited bargaining power, exercise consent?
  • How can we ensure transparency and accountability in automated decision-making?
  • What does the future hold for AI-driven HR practices in Europe?

We will look closely at the public sector, particularly the EU institutions, to compare how these tools are adopted and whether more cautious or restrictive approaches are followed.

As AI continues to transform the labour market, these developments are becoming directly relevant to anyone navigating recruitment, making this a timely opportunity to reflect on how fundamental rights can be preserved in practice.
