7th EDEN Event on Data Protection in Law event, "Human After All: Data Protection in Policing”, speech by Wojciech Wiewiórowski, Rome, Italy
On April 21st 2021, the European Commission presented its Proposal for a Regulation of the European Parliament and of the Council laying down harmonised roles on Artificial Intelligence (AI). In the Joint Opinion 5/2021 of the EDPB and the EDPS it is stressed that the Proposal has important data protection and privacy implications. With a focus on biometric surveillance, the EDPS and EDPB trainees explore possible implications stemming from the Commission's Proposal and invite you to participate in an engaging discussion.
Facial Emotion Recognition (FER) is the technology that analyses facial expressions from both static images and videos in order to reveal information on one’s emotional state. The complexity of facial expressions, the potential use of the technology in any context, and the involvement of new technologies such as artificial intelligence raise significant privacy risks.

The newly renamed Global Privacy Assembly (formerly known as International Conference of Data Protection and Privacy Commissioners - ICDPPC) took place this year 2020 during the period from October the 13th to October the 15th. This year's event wasn't immune to the COVID-19 pandemic currently occurring. Consequently the place of the event, which initially was planned to be held in Mexico City, had to be changed to a virtual setting, making it the first time that such an occasion was organized online.
