On 27 July 2021, the EDPS published his Opinion on the European Commission’s proposed Regulation establishing an evaluation and monitoring mechanism to verify whether the rights and obligations related to Schengen are applied (Schengen evaluations).

Brussels, 21 June - The EDPB and EDPS have adopted a joint opinion on the European Commission’s Proposal for a Regulation laying down harmonised rules on artificial intelligence (AI).

Today marks another important date for Europe – the day the European Public Prosecutor's Office (EPPO) becomes operational.

The EDPS launched two investigations today, one regarding the use of cloud services provided by Amazon Web Services and Microsoft under Cloud II contracts by European Union institutions, bodies and agencies (EUIs) and one regarding the use of Microsoft Office 365 by the European Commission.

The European Data Protection Supervisor (EDPS) published today the outcome of his remote audit on how European institutions, bodies and agencies (EUIs) inform individuals about the way their personal data is processed when signing up to newsletters and other similar subscriptions.  

The European Commission’s legislative proposal for an Artificial Intelligence Act is the first initiative, worldwide, that provides a legal framework for Artificial Intelligence (AI). The EDPS welcomes and supports the European Union’s (EU) leadership aiming to ensure that AI solutions are shaped according to the EU’s values and legal principles.

Today, European Data Protection Supervisor Wojciech Wiewiórowski presented his Annual Report 2020. The Report presents how the EDPS continued to fulfil its role as the data protection authority for EU institutions, agencies and bodies (EUIs) in the context of the pandemic.

Brussels, 6 April - The European Data Protection Board (EDPB) and the European Data Protection Supervisor (EDPS) adopted a joint opinion on the Proposals for a Digital Green Certificate.

In his Opinion published on 11 March 2021, the EDPS welcomes the Proposal for the NIS 2.0 Directive, which aims to replace the existing Directive on security of network and information systems (NIS).

Brussels, 10 March - The EDPB and EDPS adopted a joint opinion on the proposal for a Data Governance Act (DGA). The DGA aims to foster the availability of data by increasing trust in data intermediaries* and by strengthening data-sharing mechanisms across the EU. In particular, the DGA intends to promote the availability of public sector data for reuse, sharing of data among businesses and allowing personal data to be used with the help of a ‘personal data-sharing intermediary’. The DGA also seeks to enable the use of data for altruistic purposes.

The EDPS published today his Opinion on the proposed amendments to the Europol Regulation which aim, in part, to broaden the scope of Europol’s mandate in response to changes in the security landscape and increasingly complex threats. The Opinion assesses the necessity and proportionality of these proposed amendments, taking into account the importance of aligning the data protection rules for Europol with the data protection rules for other European institutions, bodies and agencies (EUIs), under Regulation (EU) 2018/1725.  

The EDPS published today his Opinion on two proposed agreements between the European Union (EU) and the United Kingdom (UK): the Trade and Cooperation Agreement (TCA) and an agreement on the security procedures for exchanging and protecting classified information.

The EDPS published Opinions today on the European Commission’s proposals for a Digital Services Act and a Digital Markets Act. Both Opinions aim to assist the EU legislators to shape a digital future rooted in EU values, including the protection of individuals’ fundamental rights, such as the right to data protection.
