Several different large-scale IT databases are used by the EU to facilitate police cooperation and to help manage borders and migration. The EU aims to improve the efficiency of these databases by making them more interoperable, or capable of communicating and exchanging information. While we endorse attempts to develop a more coherent approach to border management and cooperation, this is a complex topic.

Angesichts der Suche der EU nach dem besten Konzept für die Sicherung ihrer Grenzen ist der Europäische Datenschutzbeauftragte der Auffassung, dass für die Bürger die Wirksamkeit der vorgebrachten Vorschläge, aber auch die Einhaltung der Datenschutzgesetze sichergestellt werden muss.

Ein neuer Vorschlag zum Datenschutz in der elektronischen Kommunikation sollte die Vertraulichkeit der Kommunikation gewährleisten, Klarheit bieten und die Datenschutzgrundverordnung (DSGVO) ergänzen, sagte der Europäische Datenschutzbeauftragte (EDSB) anlässlich der Veröffentlichung seiner Stellungnahme zur Überarbeitung der Datenschutzrichtlinie für elektronische Kommunikation.

„Vertraulichkeit ist die wirksamste Methode, um Mitarbeiter dazu zu ermutigen, Fehlverhalten am Arbeitsplatz zu melden“, erklärte der Europäische Datenschutzbeauftragte (EDSB) heute bei der Veröffentlichung seiner Leitlinien zu Whistleblowing-Verfahren.

In seiner Eigenschaft als unabhängige Aufsichtsbehörde der Organe und Einrichtungen der EU und Berater des EU-Gesetzgebers veröffentlichte der Europäische Datenschutzbeauftragte (EDSB) heute seine Stellungnahme zum EU-US-Datenschutzschild, in der praktische Lösungsvorschläge zum Ausräumen einiger der von dem Entwurf hervorgerufenen Bedenken gegeben werden.

Da die neuen Datenschutzbestimmungen mittlerweile rechtsverbindlich sind, muss die EU nun ihr Augenmerk darauf richten, dass diese erfolgreich umgesetzt werden, erklärte der Europäische Datenschutzbeauftragte vor dem Ausschuss für bürgerliche Freiheiten, Justiz und Inneres (LIBE) des Europäischen Parlaments anlässlich der Vorstellung seines Jahresberichts 2015.

Der Europäische Datenschutzbeauftragte (EDSB) Giovanni Buttarelli und der Direktor des Europäischen Polizeiamts (Europol) Rob Wainwright begrüßten die kürzliche Annahme der Europol-Verordnung durch das Europäische Parlament.

In seiner heute veröffentlichten Stellungnahme brachte der Europäische Datenschutzbeauftragte seine Unterstützung für die Initiative eines Rahmenabkommens zwischen der EU und der USA zum Ausdruck.
